Yes, sometimes it does not detect CF card and with the faster cores it is even more uncertain. But I could say that it is usable compared to the nightly builds.

Love to see this progress.

Seems Ill have to get another 500V2 to play with this as my current one is burried deep in my working machine ... as is the sd2ide ;)

We should not today demand SMP!
SMP is complex today for AMIGA OS.
But AMP can relative easily be done.

I prefer AMP over SMP any time.

One CPU to rule them all, One CPU to find them,
One CPU to bring them all and in the system bind them

Hi Pak Rat,

Love it, love it! BRILLIANT!!!! (--->LoTR ref.)

While SMP on AOS/AROS sounds functionally impossible without breaking compatibility, Gunnar seems to suggest that we may be able to AMP the hell out of it. ;) If you put the Amiga checkmark in front of AMP, you get what looks like VAMP,  or Amiga Asymmetrical Multiprocessing. A nice little Amiga/Vampire inside joke, if we could legally use the checkmark. There are many ways to skin a CAT(5) when it comes to multicore parallel processing. ^^

Love it, love it! BRILLIANT!!!! (Word crafted perfectly. :-))) )

Being inconspicuous like that, GENIUS!!!!

Hi Marko,

Personally, I'm resigned to needing THREE of them, myself.

EVEN THOUGH the premise of AMIGA is MULTI-TASKING.... it's still a necessary luxury to have some dedicated machines in play as well!!!!!

1) For instance for work, independent for security and also, computer program development, that can often lead to software malfunctions you wouldn't want to affect other processes running on your machine.

2) Dedicated media player allowing for other people's access to AMIGA as well as yourself.

3) For everything else, including games that may often not allow for background activities taking place to work properly.

* * * * * * *

IF a unique AOS3.x dedicated to the 68080 "CPU" isn't released By Hyperion Entertainment, an AROS version certainly should be.

By that, I mean AROS (or AOS3.x) compiled with 68080 (assembler, and 64 bit (if possible), where improvements would further increase), FPU, AMMX2 and S-AGA instructions incorporated into it, that does NOT WORK on 68000, 020, 030, 040 and 060 CPU'd AMIGAS. It doesn't have "if ... then" instructions in there so it can work on the lower CPUs, or include the superfluous code segments that would allow for it to run, which would only increase the code size for no reason.

Yes, a break with the past, yet maintaining backward compatibility to as high a degree as possible.

The best of ALL worlds!!!!!!!!

I love your enthusiasm Therry, but best we can opt from current position is that this 3.1.x release will bring something OS 3.5 or OS 3.9 dont have. Otherwise, its useless to all owners.

Vamp specific optimisations arent mentioned. Hype team congratulating Apollo is more a merit then a specific direction.

Same goes for AROS 68k. Its great it started to suport Vamps, but it will not magically turn to optimized distro.

BUT, in time, if Vamp flok grows and proper optimization, debugging etc. tools are presented, it might become true.

Mind that so far, no OS 3.x or AROS distro has been heavily optimized beyond 00/020 code.

currently there is not much going on on aros front. today i repaired aros doom port (initially based on adoom ppc) to compile for and work on amiga-m68k. i may implement optimizations that have been done for amiga in there, but cannot test it very well since it doesnt run timedemo with the wad version i have.

other than that im occasionally fixing compilation of this and that from aros sources for amiga, but nothing particular, rather for the sake of completeness. also im working on some further apps and libs based on third party contributions, but not being a coder i may or may not succeed with it.

certainly people with more expertise in amiga and experience in system progamming would made actual difference, if they joined.

Thanks Wawa. Any efort is better then none.
I am sad Kalamatee is gone and silent and we did not make a difference at time needed.

At the moment I am betting on both horses (OS3.1x and AROS). Who knows - at some future point some cross-pollination may happen (either in developers, code, or both).

Should I keep sponsoring Kalamatee? Is his absence only temporary?

until we do something more significant in terms of collecting few thousand euros and pay them to guys like kalamatee as team of "developing investors" we will see nothing that is contributing
as acceleration to development in any way. so lets start, give the account with funds counter. i dont want hyperion to even start to think of os4 port to vampire. they dont deserve it. aros is the right way to go.

kalamatee, how much money do you honest need to continue with further serious development?

people need to be able to live their lives. im not sure any serious funding is possible in amiga community. usually only ovious scam works wonders here, i hope the vampire effort proves me wrong. so instead talking money lets gather ourselves and put some effort in coding.

Considering he basically was figuratively both on his knees and arms financially, the relatively small amount of Patreon money hes recieving is barely holding his head above water. He did say he might/probably have to sell his computer equipment before the "rescue" happened.
Wether or not he did end up doing that, Ive not heard either or in that regard. I hope not, cause he seems to have potential income thru those skills.

But if I personally had been in his situation, doing hobbylevel coding would probably be VERY far down on the list of priorities.
I guess you could argue that Kalamatee has let a oppurtunity pass, by not communicating with the community. There seems/seemed to be quite alot of willingness to chip in for his continued development, more so than he already got (and what he got was for his past developments mind you, like Wawa usually points out).

Anyhow, I do wonder the same thing Greg with regards to his absence, but maybe asking on AROS EXEC forum is more likely to yield an answer.

I have not heared anything from Kalamatee so I cannot say if absence is temporary or enduring. To me it looks more like enduring because there was no activity by him for a long time, not by commits and even not in developer mailing list. So I assume not. Deadwood too has lost interest in Aros. I contacted him and explained why I think Aros has advantages to 3.X but not heared of him after. So unfortunately two of the most active developers dropped Aros almost at the same time. Hopefully others will step in in future.

he indeed has. Certainly he would not have become millionaire but at least he had a chance to get income. By becoming silent from one day to the other this chance is gone now.

he had a chance to get income.

i dont think that income could be in a range to sustain someones living. one may need to turn elsewhere and maybe even quit some time and attention consuming habits to get hold of real life issues. nobody should be entiteled to feel grudge against such, in fact, a resonable decission,
