i dont think that income could be in a range to sustain someones living. one may need to turn elsewhere and maybe even quit some time and attention consuming habits to get hold of real life issues. nobody should be entiteled to feel grudge against such, in fact, a resonable decission,

Indeed. If he has indentified his computer hobby as one of the main issues with rebuilding his economy, then going cold turkey might be the way to go.
Unless he got a fulltime job doing AROS (unrealistic), sticking to the hobby thru a relativly small payout from the community might just prolong/worsen the situation.

So I agree with you comment Wawa T. If its the case, its a loss for the community, but probably the best in the long run for him and his family.

I certainly hope that AROS 68k advances to the point where it will be very useful for the 68080 cpu on Vampire accelerators. The work that Olaf and others and the Apollo Team are doing to help make that a reality is greatly appreciated. The icons Olaf is using are really nice! I like that. Keep up the good work!

Just wondering if this is still going?

I Don't know a lot about AROS, and haven't used it yet, but Stephen Jones gave it quite a plug on a podcast I heard recently, I understand it's open-source and will run on 68k Amigas, is that correct?

Don't want to nag people to do more free dev work, I'm just thought it sounded promising and am interested in where this is going (if anywhere)?

There is/was a bounty system for AROS enhancements.  Not sure if that still exists but was a good way to drive progress.

An example of a useful bounty currently open, there is "Workbook", an faster OS 3.1 minimalistic GUI EXTERNAL LINK
But point is we dont know what problems are. Maybe it should be like 3-4 bounties

  - Fixing AROS 68k for Vampire 2/4 to boot from HDD,ADF,CD, USB :-)

  - Optimizing some parts of Wanderer and video for SAGA/080

  - Backporting latest Odyssey AROS and Final Writter for AROS 68k and 080 AMMX

  -  Backporting SMP and MESA from AROS x86

Afaik, the new SAGA driver bypasses the slow graphics system on AROS making it a lot speedier, however there was still IDE issues, both on bog-standard classic systems and Vampire IDE last I heard. Unless they've sorted that out by now.

There was some communication on aros dev ml on the vampire ide issue but close to nothing. I dont think that we will get any further like that. Not without more involvement. Especially now, when we have lost our main developer thanks to some idiots on forum. Id would not advise towards aros in currently situation. While
I still try to contribute especially to m68k support. Which mostly consists of forwarding Last changes from kal to the repo.

Sorry for Aros situation. Vampire and Aros seemed to me the best combination to bring to a powerful classic hardware an open source and more modern os solution. Hope the future will reserve more consideration and more development for Aros.

Not ended saga yet, but no high hopes either.Really, affordable but yet (FPGA flash) upgradable hardware with FLOSS software, but yet quite Amiga compatibile was a dream ever since CBM was gone.

Well. Dumb Thing is that two weeks ago everything looked rather promissing. There was huge amount of work going into c++11 Support as result of which i now have lstest Version of odyssey copiling for m68k. It didnt though fully load yet, neither on ppc mir 68k .

It’s a real shame that people will get that affected by what others say in forums.
They should try to be YouTubers... they’d probably quit that after a few days of exposure...
People can say some reallt nasty stuff, you just need to learn to brush it off and do your own thing

I wont judge developers decision. If you have over the years invested a lot of work for free into something that earns you accusations, you may simply get demotivated. Simple thing.

Yeah, sure. If it earns you nothing but negative feedback. But I bet there’s a lot of positive feedback too.

I don’t need to look further that at myself. I’ve made Youtube videos since 2009, had a lot of shit said to me. I block those kind of people and focus on the positive feedback instead.
Most ppl on the internet don’t know constructive criticism, and just bash. Those need to be thrown out of ANY community, heads first. Unfortunately many are receptive to negative feedback, and let it affect their work.

My parents taught me growing up to chose my friends with care and sort out the bad seeds, this is pretty similar. Why focus on mean people, give your distribution to them, when they clearly don’t deserve it? I would have gone by this differently.

I would create a user group, allow those in that are friendly, or at least neutral. Anyone who would misbehave like that could just as well turn around and spread their negativity elsewhere

I don’t “judge” either, but I will say it’s a shame

Btw. I just remembered something. For those interested in running aros dependably on vampire. Paradoxically kolla has got it running on his Mist or Mister replacing aros ata.device with scsi.device in Rom Image. probably he renamed it too but i dont have further details myself.

In this video by Pedro Cotter, Aros seems to work pretty well on Vampire. If the magic is to leave apart ide device, well that is a big deal.

no, the magic apparently is to get apollo/vampire rtg driver in place,  which i know nothing of, instead of aros one..

other than that i have received instructions from kolla, which while a good guidance i myself find too laborous for a regular user. i post them below, but i dont expect people to follow them except id come up with something easier:

  All I did was...
  * remove a few commands in C: on the aros boot adf, to make space for...
  * scsi.device 43.45 and LoadModule
  * boot from the adf, which loads aros and resets
  * boot aros from the adf, cancel on "insert aros CD"
  * when desktop (workbook?) is up, open aros shell
  * enter "LoadModule devs:scsi.device", which resets aros
  * aros now sees hard drive on the IDE and can boot from partitions

If the proper scsi.device already is in the Kickstart, couldn't you just make AROS skip its own version?

that, once assumed aros is being softkicked from amiga kickstart, of course, as it done on a regular amiga to date. but since the whole kickstart is mapped in to replace the original one i doubt is can be done instead to compile the device into it, or loadmodule upon it as kolla does.

admittedly i might probably replace generated ata.sevice with scsi.device binary and try "link" it in using "make distfiles" or the like. gosh..
