how does parasite interface between vampire amiga,

PARASITE is like this Indi-something GFX hardware.
Remove the INDIxxx, plug in PARASITE.

It looks pretty good :)

Just to clarify; PARASITE is or is not part of the fpga core? I couldn't find any online reference to PARASITE as a piece of hardware..

Yes, its A NEW DEVICE.
Please consult the book of AMIGA hardware Edition 2018, there you will see a picture and the sentence "most succesful Amiga hardware  in 2017"

The Parasite is a little add-on board that plugs onto Denise and is connected to the Vampire. It collects digital video data from the custom chipset, transmits it to the Vampire FPGA which then outputs the video data through the Vampire's digital video output. Since this is done without buffering the video data inside the Vampire, the lag is as low as 64 µs (one 15 kHz scanline) and thus totally unnoticable (contrary to other similar solutions out there which buffer an entire frame before outputting it). In addition to all this the digital video signal sent from the Vampire is a standard-compliant 50 Hz video signal which means that the Parasite provides absolute smooth scrolling in PAL Amiga games and demos. Something that previous solutions and SCART-2-DVI/DIGITAL-VIDEO converters did not achieve as those output 60 Hz video signals meaning that after every few frames a preceding frame had to be sent again resulting in choppy scrolling.

Hi Gunnar.
Would I be right in thinking that this would only work with the Vampire 500v2+ as it needs the extra IO connection pins?
Not for the Vampire 600v2?

Regards.

So Parasite is just a kind of (better) flickerfixer. I hoped that it is a full implementation of OCS/ECS(/AGA) video modes into Apollo core which acts like a mirror of the original chipset. This also would have been an important step towards standalone Apollo machine.

Open your eyes :)
And look at THE OTHER announcement - then you will be happy.

PARASITE is excelent for playing games.
And PARASITE is for the purists which want 100% the original signal.

PARASITE seems to be a very impressive piece of hardware itself. It would be nice if it could continue to function along with the Vampire even after AGA support for non-AGA Amigas is available through the Apollo Core SAGA. Very nice job!

I like the idea behind PARASITE as far as it being 100% original signal for games! The work that has been done so far is amazing! Personally, I feel the 2,000 or so that have expressed interest in the a500 V2+ myself included may soon reach 5,000! Maybe I'm overly optimistic, maybe not. The a1200 V2 will be even better! I remember my first Amiga 500 when computing was fun! Thanks to Apollo Team those days have returned.

How unimportant does chip ram become with developments like this.

I would like to put the vampire in an A1000 but with only 512k chip doesn't seem worth it.

Or am I assuming too much, will the vampire work or fit into the 1000?

ChipRAM is not too important when you are interested in RTG. With P96, updated datatypes and PeterK's icon.library, you can keep screens, windows, icons etc. in FastRAM.

ChipRAM will only be required for Paula audio output in that case. I've upgraded my A500 to 1.5 MB ChipRAM but use almost nothing of it.

Is there any update on when this will be available, approximate cost, and where it can be purchased or pre-ordered from?

Thanks
