Wich version of Calamus SL do you have? I have a version from arround 1990-92 which still works in Monochrome mode (ST-High).

I tried the official Calamus SL lite edition 2015 from there:

But I'm not going to test all the versions.

Yes, that 2015 version at least would need 256 colors. But running 1.09N is already much more than Firebee can do.

Lonny Pursell's Atari GFA-Basic Editor just works fine on Amiga + Vampire V2 + EmuTOS + FreeMiNT.
And of course you can bang the Amiga hardware :-)

I'm proud to announce that I have written an fVDI driver for SAGA.
It enables the Vampire V2 DIGITAL-VIDEO output and 16-bit color modes in EmuTOS for Amiga, when running on Vampire V2.
See screenshot: EXTERNAL LINK
Don't be fooled, this is really the same ugly monochrome EmuTOS you were accustomed to. But now it has more colors and more resolution :-)

Binaries and sources are available there:
EXTERNAL LINK
Basically, I have merged the fVDI 16-bit driver and SAGA Picasso96 driver. And voila.

My dear Vincent, you are the hero of the month! This is great achievement.

What resolution do you have? Would it be possible to extend the color depth to 24 Bit, that Camlamus 2015 can run?

And can you please run the kronos Benchmark on this configuration?

The screenshot is 1024x768, 16-bit. It is the highest stable resolution I managed to get.

I also tried higher resolutions, based on modelines for my monitor dumped with Linux. I tried 1280x960, 1440x900 and 1680x1050. They are stable and crisp, as one would expect, when the CPU is idle. But as soon as there are significant memory accesses (outside the CPU cache), the screen goes off for a few seconds. I have been told it is because of memory bandwidth limitation on the Vampire hardware.

fVDI only provides a 16-bit example. It would certainly be extendable to 24-bit or 32-bit, with some effort.

On the MiNT Mailing List, I asked people to run Kronos on Falcon + CT60 so we can compare comparable things.

Vincent, you should check again. Gunnar just wrote me that on Amiga 1920x1080 @ 32 Bit there is no such bandwidth issue.

Maybe it is just some kind of modeline bug. It is tricky to setup VGA-like video modes.

Also, remember this is the first version of this fVDI driver. There is room for improvements.

The frame rates are limited to lower frequencies in hi-res large colour depth modes.

As Ian mentioned, the Vampire DIGITAL-VIDEO has limits. From EXTERNAL LINK
Q: What RTG resolutions are available right now ?

A: The driver supports from 320×240 up to 1920×1080, however, the Pixel Clock of the Vampire is limited, so you will need a TV/monitor that can cope with low refresh rates if you want to use large modes (e.g. for 1080p you'll need to run at 24Hz vertical refresh)

In the fVDI driver, I use the exact same PLL settings as the Picasso96 driver: EXTERNAL LINK
When I request 1680x1050 @ 60 Hz, my monitor says 38 Hz. Not sure if this is the true value or pure bullshit.

Note that in these high resolutions, the picture is perfectly stable, until I move the mouse and make some CPU activity, where the screen gets completely black for a few seconds, and come again. Worse case is when I run memory benchmark with Kronos, the screen stays black during all the test. This may also be a power supply issue, I don't know. But trouble is definitely linked to the CPU activity. I considered that as symptoms of a memory bandwidth issue. Gunnar explained me similar bandwidth questions 2 days ago.

Kronos is a popular Atari benchmark.
Here are the results on Vampire.

Hardware used:

- Amiga 500+ equipped with Vampire 500 V2+
- SAGA DIGITAL-VIDEO output, 1024x768

Software used:

- Current Apollo Core: GOLD2

Remember that FPU is not yet available.

- Latest EmuTOS snapshot
EXTERNAL LINK  Get emutos-amiga-floppy-20170129.zip then extract emutos-vampire.adf
This is a floppy optimized for Vampire: EmuTOS lives in FastRAM and is compiled for 68040.

- fVDI driver for SAGA

- Recent official mint040.prg

Thank you Vincent for your good work !
Now we can toy with yet another OS on our vampirised Amigas ! And I think some ppl may even like it ;-)

Impressive work Vincent, you bring a new OS to the Amiga, and a new host to the Atari. Not only it runs well, but also it is fast. About the display limits, well, for daily usage a 960x540, 960x600, or 1024x768 is much enough for me on such machines/os. But team is working on improving this.

Hi Vincent

1st) Mega Kudos for your progress.
You did super progress in short time.
This looks really awesome!

Its a pleasure to see ATARI running like this on APOLLO 68080.

Vincent one question out of curiosity, the 1024 screenmode you used which pixelclock in MHz did this mode had?

Thanks :-)

For modes up to 1024x768, I just used the VESA settings from the Picasso96 driver. I don't know exactly the pixel clock, as it is automatically computed.
