Brexit UK Parcel Delays

Dear UK Amiga fans,

Because UK now does customs checks on all parcels from Europe,
the parcel customs people in UK have much more work than last year
and are not able to handle the parcels in the normal time.

Because of this packet all piling up at the customs office in UK.
We were told that UK citizens need to plan for an extra delay of 2 weeks for their parcels.

Not only this but you have to pay 20% VAT for the privilege for a delay now :(

Don't think we need to pay import duty but websites are very confused on this so potential an additional £18 so thanks to Brexit, V1200 will now cost UK Amiga owners around £500!!!

I'd don't think the gift thing works as you have to pay VAT if the gift is more than £39 unless parcel sent costing less than £39.  Not sure customs will accept this though and you might end up with no parcel...

When importing to non EU country you should negotiate pre-purchase to get a VAT free price, since you will pay it to your country during import. Good websites do this automatically (present price without VAT when non EU country is selected), but if its not, try e-mail contact and arrangement.

Surely, stop on customs always means delays.

Custom duties might also arrive, depending on your countries policy on import - depending on value and type of good-merchandise. It used to be like that before EU, its just hard to switch back :)

When European people buy goods in Europe then the shops have to always add the VAT. So all prices in EU include VAT.

When a UK customer buys in EU, then the shop will sell him without VAT but the customs in UK will add the UK VAT.

So nothing really changes for UK people.
You get first the EU VAT removed and then UK VAT added again.
In the end the resulting price is about the same.

The problem occurs if you have to return an item from UK to Europe for warranty repair/replacement.  Then you have to pay the import fees again.  I've been caught on that recently with something I purchased over two years ago.  Not good for UK people.

If you do the math the price stays about the same.
The EU vat is deducted from the price, then the UK Vat is added.

The end result is nearly the same.

Glad about your touch of happiness :)

Import taxes are on UK side, and any imports will have it on local prices. Only safe side are no import taxes agreement, but that is between EU and UK now. If its any comfort, few non EU East European countries add more taxation, so its "not worst of all"
