Is it?

- V4 SA with SDCard
- Lets call it "Coffin case"
- Mechanical USB keyboard :)
- Nice gaming high precision USB mouse :) (is there a DB9 converter to save a USB slot?)
- Vampire Mouse Pad
- HDMi and miniUSB cables and charger

Nice setup

For USB our default idea is:
a) Use USB Keyboard
b) Use USB Mouse

2 x DB9 for 2 Competition-PRO orig AMIGA Joystick

(not promising but) There might also be a solution to use XBOX/Playstation USB Controllers.

How's the USB support been working out? Seem to work with most KB/Mice tested so far? Mouse support working ok in game when on USB vs Joyport?

USB Mouse / Keyboard support is done in HW in the FPGA.
This means no drivers for this is needed.
No OS support is needed.
As soon as you power the system on - it will just work.

This is a big advantage.
You can boot KICKSTART 1.1 from AMIGA 100 and it will support USB Mouse.

Every old Demo, every old Game will just be able to use the USB Mouse/Keyboards.

Doing the USB fully in HW is good for compatibility with old games and demos.
Of course this more work for us the Apollo-Team, as we needed to develop the USB chip ourselves.

Regarding support of all Mice and Keyboards.
Of course we could not test all devices worldwide available.
We test a number and a number worked fine, some don't yet.
Its on our to-do list to improve these which are yet not working.

For the release date now - we want to ship complete systems.
Vampire plus testing working mouse and keyboard.

We will bring a selection of different mice and keyboards - for all tastes something.

We want to give the people a "key-ready" solution.
Which will just work right out of the box.

Have you added new hardware support for the mouse wheel?

I would leave an USB for HP LaserJet / USB Mass Storage. Can old school DB9 mouse be used? (keyboard is a must!) Or simple USB extender?

  Nice hardcoded USB support, great!

Any chance of case with DVD ROM and SSD/HDD places and classic PSU while keeping Vamp mobo firmly seated?

Dear Vojin,

The Vampire4 is "work in progress" right now.
Everyone will understand that developing your own USB Chip, your own CPU, your own NIC is all a lot of work.

Our CPU and FPU are prefect and great now.
The USB is work in progress and will improve over time more.
Step by step.

What is VERY important is that we are 100% honest
and 100% correctly communicate what is working and what not.

I try to be 100% transparent here and tell people the truth.

Vojin, I like your enthuiasm
and I'm sure that you fully understand
that if you post here also your wish-list
of things that should be done next year or the year after - then this threat here will be very confusing to read.

I think its very important to be clear and not confusing.
People need to 100% know what they can get today to make a good decision.

So please be so kind and not mix wishlists in when we try to answer questions about supported features!

Thanks for your understanding.
We want to provide honest information.

OK, let see it as "USB KB and mouse" for now :)
And more focus on what current FPGAs are.

I only ask about the USB hub capabilities because I tend to prefer keyboards that have USB ports in them to plug the mouse into (like the apple Mac wired keyboards/mice).

Not looking to hook up a bunch of USB device... (Although, being able to transfer files using USB stick would be nice, but I guess we have ethernet for that if it comes down to it...)

I'm transferring all the data over my network from and to my Amiga's for years now, it's so much easier and with vamp you get more then decent enough speeds.
I get around 1 MB/sec download speed on my A600+vamp with 10/100 pcmcia ethernet card, and even up to 1,6 MB/sec when downloading to RAM Disk)

The way I understand it the Vampire will have a transparent layer making a USB keyboard / mouse appear to the chipset exactly like Amiga keyboards / mice. There is no simple way how this same USB-port converted into a virtual Amiga port would appear as a full-blown USB port to the OS. It's just a modern connector for modern input devices converted into a dumb legacy port.

It's a great feature just the way it is.

I don't now for sure but I would think a hub would only add a small layer of complexity however this complexity would normally be dealt with in software to allocate the necessary resources. If the ports are currently handled purely in hardware maybe with one dedicated to keyboard and the other to mouse using a hub may be problematic. To get the ports working with the legacy hardware (CIA, Paula/Pamela and Lisa) registers it may be a bit like having a dedicated USB keyboard to amiga keyboard input dongle and another for the mouse. There may be another set of new registers even re-purposing of unused CIA IO to allow software access to the ports with a full USB stack this could get a keyboard or mouse on a hub working with OS friendly software but not with anything that takes over the system and hitting registers directly or at early boot. All speculation on my part I'm sure more will be made known before too long.

I asked earlier if there was support for wheel mouse and it looks like the way these ports are implemented could have a bearing on that as it seems the way it's done currently is to create rawkey events for the scroll wheel(s) activity so it may require the "mouse" port to send codes to the "keyboard" port.

Hi Gunnar,

I am getting a Checkmate A1500 case from Steve Jones and won't need a case or any other extras.
Will I still be able to do that?
I have placed my order of interest through Vesalia and am looking forward to receiving this magnificent New Amiga.
I also think AROS is a great way forward. Steve Jones also believes it is the best future solution for the Vampire Miggy.
Thank you and the team for all the hard work and for not giving up.

Alan from OZ
