The Apollo Team has put the September activity report online.
You read it all in the Apollo Accelerators Forum.
http://forum.apollo-accelerators.com/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=1937#p3067

You get of the things they'll bring in the next weeks & months.

Thanks guys.  The wait is worth it.:)

why do they insist on having a 2nd forum ?
most people come here, why posting over there ?
personally, i prefer the overall feeling here, i don't like the other, dark, forum and it lacks a button/link "today's posts" so you don't need to dig by hands all the recent activity in all the forum subsections.

I looove the theme of this website, the look, feel..it feels sooo light on the eye, mind, heart and soul. It is even made in such way that any computer even Apple //gs or Commodore 64 can view the website correctly and view it very fast!

This is literally my favorite website and it have the most active people here.

- Its good to hear v2 core is tweaked
- Its good to hear GOLD3 will go public beta
- Its good to know V4 is being worked on
- Thanks for supporting Stephen! We need that case!

September Activity Report

As summer is ending soon, people are coming back from the sea to what really matters: Amiga love. After a general slowdown in team this summer, we are also back again at work and here are the news!

Events

Apollo Team will be attending some events in next months and we are very excited to meet people there and discuss about Vampire:

Classic Computing 2018 on 22+23th of September in Oedheim-Degmarn (Germany)

µAlchimie V on 20+21th of October in Clérieux (France)

We will bring nice surprises at those events but I won’t tell more about it, you just have to be there ;-)

GOLD2.11

GOLD2.x development branch is still ongoing and we should soon release a new iteration of that core series with name of GOLD2.11 (our marketing team took weeks to choose that incredible and over original name). GOLD2.11 will introduce some very interesting feature like blitter improvement, which should fix lot of badly written games running on WHDLoad that where messing with IRQ a bit too much.

FPU has also been improved by a large margin: we were able to use bit of remaining FPGA space to extend precision of FPU up to 50Bit. This improvement fixes Elude RTG demos that were affected by the « date bug » reported on A1k. MacOS emulation was also affected by this (you could see it when running Warcraft 2, intro movie was a slideshow). Kiero helped us to address this issue and we thank him for that, thanks man!

We also introduced Out-of-Order execution on FPU instructions, which speeds up operation by another great margin when software takes advantage of it. For example, POVray likes it very much and calculation is now faster on 3D rendering scenes.

Team is also working on ICache Prefetch. This feature will also speed up lot of programs that can take advantage of it. This one is not trivial and need to be implemented conscientiously to not introduce unwanted behaviour. If it gets good enough, it will make its way in GOLD2.11.

All in one, we are super excited about bringing GOLD2.11 to all, it will make Vampire V2 even faster while improving compatibility with old games.

GOLD3

GOLD3 branch development has also continued during this summer. We went through quite a lot of games and fixed lot of them but it still requires some love. We are thinking about releasing GOLD3 as alpha and open a webpage to report bugs to help speeding up development.

Bug reports for GOLD3 would require some rules to be followed to be considered. Reporting « it doesn’t work » won’t be useful and time wasting for team.

In next days that webpage will be set up and more communication will flow accordingly. Stay tuned, AGA for everyone is around the corner.

Vampire V4

Vampire V4 is being actively tested and we are still in process of porting current core code from Cyclone III to Cyclone V. As Cyclone V FPGA cells responds very differently from the good old C3, we need to make sure that core behaves as expected on it on every case we throw at him. This process is long and very exhausting and is even involving people from Altera to make it happen.

Checkmate A1500 Plus

Our friend Stephen Jones just launched a kickstarter campaign for his checkmate A1500 Plus case, which is a perfect fit for a Vampirized Amiga. We fully support him and hope he will achieve full success on his campaign. If you haven’t yet baked it, it’s time to. Go get one here now.

They should do something similar for the Core 3 alpha testing that the WineHQ people do, a grid with test results for application/game/demo, what core version, what the execution quality was (GOLD, SILVER, BRONZE, GARBAGE), date the test was one on, etc. that way you dont have 1000 people all testing the exact same demo/game and all trying to submit their results, best if people can see whats already tested, known working, known to be problematic and/or untested .. (so they can test untested stuff), I think this a much more effective use of the open beta/alpha concept and far more effective then just having people willy nilly go off and (most likely) duplicate effort.

Why? You had a free comment :-)

When standalone is ready for internal testers, could Stephen get one so he can finetune PC case variant for it and show it on You Tube? If prototype exists, it would be best to do it now, during the campaign

(Note to Vamp users: A500/A600+Vamp card users should buy Checkmate Amiga version)

I think I'll close apollo-accelerators.com forums soon. Even if is has more features and is moderner, users seems to prefer to post here (even me !)

Ah, this one is Apollo-Core forum.

What about migrating just GUI here and taking the userbase and message base from here :-) That would be a task!

OK, this is fast and easy one, but we will loose the black vamp theme. Maybe some 68k app with that GUI that would act as this fora messenger could be done? Or decent and modern 68k e-mail client like MorphOS IRIS in Vamp theme? Maybe a FTP connection between Vamp, other 68k and NG Amigas and PCs? (like RDesktop skin)

This is nice and simple , my Amigas open it too so why change it ?

Great update too, alpha 3.0 is a good way to stop people moaning for a short while ...

Mike.

I love that line. Beta testers just complaing is not really useful input.

The issue with the apollo-accelerators.com forum is no one uses it, and they dont use it as it takes a long time to get any reply to any questions, the apollo team dont appear to use it either.
I used it from around December 2017 to a couple of months ago until I found apollo-core.com forums then started using these forums. The difference is quite dramatic.
For example having a look at the top page of the forum we have sections such as 'Games and Demos' the last post was on the 17th October 2017!
'Coding and Benchmarks' 17th March 2018.
Also the theme is rubbish xD

Simply put. No one is touching this website. It have to stay like this forever and that is that! The look, the feel, the lightness, the simplicity in the eyes and mind, design and theme ...I will say it is perfect...perfect the way it is. If the Apollo-accelerators.com theme and dark theme etc die out..then so be it...as long this ..apollo-core.com ...never...ever...ever...ever...ever..until end of time...ever...ever...ever change I am content.

MorphOS forum theme also is superb so is Ubuntu's theme. I have no desire for any of those to disappear or change and to be honest...would never get bored of them even if I have lived 200 years.

Now if you want to write an application somehow to preserve the them of apollo-accelerators.com forum or something go for it. I doubt anyone is going to use the theme. So if the team forever pull the plug in that forum ...I doubt anyone is going to miss it or weep for it. I know I sound harsh..but I am just pointing out reality. Aminet.net for example have been looking like that for a long time and no one here want it to change or disappear anytime soon. No one complaint that it is boring how it looked and in fact..many are SO COMFORTABLE and used to the way it looked they want it that way.

That is human nature. We like things the same..and hate changes too much...especially when it is working and it looks good..why change it. That thinking in me is why I still play Commodore 64 and Apple // and other retro machines. If I am the type who always want changes every single time and want new things constantly I would not be even owning a single retro machine. :)

Semplicity is the key, Renaud. It brings back to '90s mindset better than anything else. Plus, it is a blast of fresh air in this era of complex, fancy, hypercolorful web pages

I'm requesting another Activity Report from Apollo Team.

I understand there may not be any big developments to announce, but even a simple list of what's being worked on would be nice.

Thanks
