Where do you know that again? Any insight knowledge in Hyperion? Ben H. is one of the owners of the company, I doubt that there is anything done without approval by those who finance it.

Where do you have that? Certainly not from Thor

That is speculation on my part based on a comment I posted much earlier back, when I said "the more copies of the AOS3.x update that they sell, the more likely they will be to release another AOS3.x update that increases access to some of the other capabilities of the new Apollo Core in the Vampire FPGA." (That is roughly how I characterised it.)

For instance, none of the commands in "C:" use 68060 instructions. They could even recompile some of them to use the new 68080 assembler instructions!!! That goes for ALL of the commands that are on the OS disks, so some to many could be re-coded for us.

If they sell very few of this upcoming AOS3.x release, they probably might never make another upgrade again.

unlock custom chipset features and CPU... you must rewrite parts of the OS to "unlock", there is no intention from Hyperion to do that, even Thor (Thomas) is critical regarding Apollo specific features. There were a lot of discussions regarding that in past. At best they implement what they already own and fix bugs, not more or less

"YES" maybe another release, if they sell some reasonable threshold of copies.

you seem to take yourself very seriously as a source of your claims.

That is a very "common sense" thought.

For instance, run it the opposite way; "they sell 18 copies".

See? It is nearly 100% likely for them NOT to make one more version, right?

for quite some time now, i've been deseperately wishing you'd notice that you're polluting every threads you post to with your flood of nonsense and, more or less everyone want you to stop. sometimes i also wonder why noone is just silencing you for good... a heroic moderator should fly down from the heavenly skies and restrict you to 5 posts per week, each at maximum 200chars.

In here, it was only because people kept harping on about Hyperion this and they that. They had no reason to, but wouldn't stop.

What I said about AOS3.x is credible.

And, I have been posting less recently, anyway.

No, actually that was the final spark that ignited the entire compressed issue and exploded. Hyperion topic was not the cause but a symptom of something else. Read what people are saying, you MIGHT find the reason why things turned the way it turned. Perhaps if you change it the damage will be reversed.

    Perhaps.....in a long distance...perhaps.

Hi nicolas,

I just counted my posts, and not including this topic, I posted 23 times from October 1st to today. Look for yourself, go ahead and check.

And many were quite short, too.

It only "feels" that way, because I posted a lot in the past.

No, that's a lie. You obviously don't like Hyperion either. Nice attempted deflection to make me look like the bad guy, by the way.

Well worded lie again. I simply kept answering to the allegations that multiple people made against Hyperion that I didn't agree with.

No, I won't read again what people wrote. You tell me as you're so sure about your fake opinion. I don't want to try and find a needle in that haystack, especially when there's nothing there.

Oh? Yeah? You mean you want me to agree that Hyperion is bad? Well, that's not going to happen.

Don't bother denying that that is what you mean.

I am not denying it. I confess, I hate Hyperion. You are right.

And?

That means that you're biased and are prepared to just make stuff up about me. Just over that, you've decided that you don't like me, for instance.

The thing is, Hyperion will do whatever they're going to do, and it being perceived as good, bad, or indifferent, should be judged down the road after they've delivered it. Now and here isn't the time or place to birch about it.

And that!

Well, when all you see is the mirror it will be impossible for me to show you where you went wrong. So I quit in my end. I have other and better things to do in my life than to continue this.

Delivery is the problem, dear Therry.

But you are right in one thing - Time to bitch about it is when its released. And that might be some point next year even for low aimed bugfixed release of OS 3.1.

Then we should ask:

- how does it compare to OS 3.9 feature list, still on sale?
- How does it benefit us other then using OS 3.9/AROS? No Vamp support is remotely mentioned in current "feature list".
-Beyond most welcomed 4gb partition limit removal is this of any benefit to anyone?

Greet to the Vamp table might be for show coolness. Or at least can mean no more "public legal advices" will come - like infamous protection of Freescale IP (in plain language calling Apollo team thieves).

And mind it, my experience with Hyperion is they are slow on delivery. If you wish, I can post a picture on OS 4.2 promise in my x1000 manual, "as soon as it appear in Hyperion download area".

Exactly.

And if it's "good", buy it.

It doesn't even need to be harshly criticised IF it is "useless", just don't buy it, then!

Vojin, that's not necessary.... I've read hundreds of posts relating to that, and lived it too. I have an AmigaOne XE. Bought it brand new back in 2007 (or somewhere there).

Nothing has ever bothered me about them except for, THIS is what they and Amiga Inc. and Eyetech SHOULD have done. An FPGA crazy wild COOL AMIGA UPGRADE!!!!

And I am here to get it.

  So, you gotta buy them.

You have no idea how ThoR thinks. He's never going to make an AmigaOS version that does not run on a plain 68000 processor. And there are not going to be any major enhancements to AmigaOS 3.1 because he explicitly lacks time to work on it. This 3.1.4 is a collection of bugfixes he collected over the last two decades.

So applying your logic:

- if only ten copies sell, there is not going to be any successor to this 3.1.4.

- if it sells remarkably well, it will sell perhaps 1000 copies. This will give Hyperion some money but not enough to pay development that would bring major enhancements => again no 080 version of AmigaOS 3.1, even more so since most of the 1000 copies would sell to people owning 68000 through 68060 based Amigas.

Yes, Aros is already where AmigaOS wont be any time soon.

While updated OS 3.x sounds nice, its more likely to have
this "destiny" of being "in between". It wont catch up with
ApolloOS either.

However, things might change in the future, as V4 Vamps become widespread. Not only they will be filling Classics, raising demand
on version that does support em, but there will be standalone option in all its glory. So may be in time ...

Another reason why developers aren't moving to update OS3.1 is due to its copyright status.  Although there's no clear owner, Hyperion has set its sights on obtaining copyright holder status and threatens legal action on anyone who attempts to modify it or make a profit from it.  This makes OS3.1 essentially a dead OS for anyone who wants to develop for it and most developers that I know simply don't have the time nor financial resources to stave off Hyperion's legal attacks.

And you're also correct regarding any return on investment.  There's simply no money to be made these days from OS3.1 sales, but unfortunately Hyperion didn't get that memo or they simply ignored it in the same manner that they ignore their customer base.

[continuation after "So maybe in time ...]....., they will discontinue supporting 68000 to 68080 and future libraries, enhancements, OS, applications and games will be exclusively for 68080.

That is my fantasy. That is my dream. My dream that the 68080 will be the next 68000 when 68000 1st came out to Amiga and it was a major hype when A1000, A2000, A500 etc used it. Then in the future we will have 68100 which would be like 68020 in the old times and then 68120 which would be like 68030 in the old times when they 1st came out and was a major hype and so on.

My dream that no one would ever come less than 68080 for their Amiga and the 68000-68060 is long gone and dead in the Amiga community.

But again, I am dreaming.

Another reason why myself I hate Hyperion. They are party crashes and destroyer. I really want AROS to take over. AROS is...is like windows 10 or 7 or xp or whatever Windows you guys like most or MacOS X or whatever modern OS with all bells and whistles and cool features but for Amiga.

If I was to switch away from AmigaOS to a different OS I would pick AROS.
